Kota Pare-pare

"Parepare is the birth city of one of Indonesia’s most respected technocrat, Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia. The name Parepare came from the sentence “Bajiki Ni Pare” meaning “The port in this region is good”, by the King of Gowa. Since then, the city has been referred to as Parepare or the Port City.

Due to its strategic location on the southwest coast of Sulawesi, Parepare was one of the first cities in Indonesia to be occupied by the Dutch colony. Its location allowed it to be one of the main points of economic growth, generating a lot of income through sea-trade.

Currently Parepare is visited for its beautiful beaches, natural scenes and fresh local produce. Visit the Lumpue Beach for a spectacular ocean view, or visit the Raya Jompie Park for a true taste of mother nature. The Ladoma River also offers a fun space for family groups to enjoy outdoor activities.
